Jennifer Lawrence To Star In Director Luca Guadagnino’s Next Film
Unless you are Italian, or really love independent film, you might not recognize the name Luca Guadagnino, but the director has made a lot of waves over the last several months thanks to his film Call Me By Your Name. The film received three Golden Globe nominations earlier this week, including Best Picture, and is expected to nab more than a few Oscar nominations as well when they are announced in the New Year. For his next couple of films, Suspiria and Rio, he’s nabbed several big names to star in them, and after that it’s now been announced that he will direct Jennifer Lawrence in Burial Rights.
Burial Rights in based on the novel by Hannah Kent, and tells the true story of Agnes Magnusdottir, the last woman publicly executed in Iceland in 1830. The story takes place as Agnes sits in jail waiting for her death sentence for killing two men is confirmed. It’s a period of reflection on what she’s supposedly done, and the emotions that come along with it. Lawrence will not only star as Agnes, but produce the film as well.
Ever since her first Oscar nomination for Winter’s Bone, Lawrence has been a perennial favourite of the Oscars. She’s had four Oscar nominations since 2011, winning one for Silver Linings Playbook. She starred in one of this year’s most controversial films, mother!, that received mixed reviews from critics. Up next for the young star in Red Sparrow in which she plays a Russian ballerina forced to worked as an assassin for Russian intelligence, and X-Men: Dark Phoenix in which she returns to the comic book universe and once again plays the shape-shifting mutant Mystique.
